Ilkhom Theatre from Uzbekistan on Tour in Moscow
5-9 September 2019
Ilkhom Theater will present two of its shows in Moscow’s Center for Contemporary Drama and Directing on 5 - 9 September with the support of the Theatre Union of the Russian Federation.
Mark Weil's Ilkhom Theater is one of the first non-governmental independent theaters in the former Soviet Union, founded by director Mark Weil in 1976 in Tashkent. Same as forty years ago, now Ilkhom remains primarily an independent, experimental and ensemble theater.
In 2011, the theater was awarded the Prize of the Royal Dutch Prince Klaus Foundation. Today, the theater produces new shows, holds laboratories and master classes, organizes various cultural projects.
Close cooperation between Ilkhom Theater and SounDrama Studio began in 2010 with the production of Alisher Navoi's The Seven Moons staged by Vladimir Pankov. Then The Rain Behind the Wall based on the play by Yuri Klavdiev premiered in 2013, and Tsvetaeva. Fedra based on the play by Marina Tsvetaeva was produced in 2017.
In Moscow Ilkhom will show Tsvetaeva. Fedra. and The Dog’s Heart.
